SOLEMNITY
OF CHRIST THE KING
NOVEMBER 21, 2004
[FROM THE PASTOR][FROM FR. ZIMMER][YOUTH MINISTRY]
FROM THE PASTORWe continue to be blessed by parishioners responding to the call to stewardship. We had an energetic follow-up meeting of our stewardship campaign leadership team to discuss where we have been and where we need to go. We will be doing some follow-up on parishioner financial commitments, but we will be shifting our focus to parishioner time and talent commitments and cultivating parishioner involvement in our parish, Church, and community. We ask all of our stewardship campaign callers to attend a follow-up meeting on Thu. Dec. 2 at 8:00 p.m. in the Newman Center. We have 374 financial commitments that total $637,762 in pledges providing an average of $1,705 per pledge.
Lord, what do you want to do through me to fulfill Your will for Your Church?
“Thank you, and thank you again,” repeated Archbishop Thomas Gullickson on the eve and day of his ordination at our Cathedral. His heart seemed to be overflowing with gratitude; it flowed over for me, too. What a privilege—to be part of such a beautiful event! Several things struck me:
1) The Church is big—universal (catholic)—and what an honor for our Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls, to give one of our own to the Church beyond our borders (diplomatic service for the people of the Antilles).
2) As I met old friends and new, I saw again the beauty of the people of our Diocese.
3) It brought back many memories (Archbishop Gullickson is my classmate) which filled me with wonder and awe at how God acts in our history—individually and as Church.
4) “Hasten the coming of the day of God” is the motto Archbishop Gullickson chose. It’s from 2 Peter 3:12. The season of Advent (“coming”) gives us the chance, rather than passively waiting, to hurry Christ’s coming—“Come, Lord Jesus!”RCIA CORNER
What is the “Rite of Acceptance”?
It is the way we formally accept those who are seeking Baptism into the “Order of Catechumens” and those who are baptized into “candidacy for full Communion with the Catholic Church.
When will this happen?
Next Saturday, November 27, at the 5:00pm Mass. After Mass we will have a reception at Sacred Heart Rectory.
What is the main symbol of the “Rite of Acceptance”?
There are two: 1) the people (candidates, sponsors, all of us); 2) the cross. The catechumens will be given the sign of the cross.
Why will the catechumens and candidates be sent away from Mass after the homily from now on?
Certainly not because they are unwelcome-just the opposite! They will go, with leaders from our parish, to reflect more deeply on the Scriptures. We want to prepare them for the day when they will share the Eucharist with us. This “dismissal and breaking open of the Word” will happen every weekend from now until Easter.

Great God, giver of all good gifts, we ask You , above all, on the Thanksgiving Day, to give us truly grateful hearts. May we give thanks for the beauty all around us, in Your creation, in our relationships, in our families, and in our workplaces. May we never take for granted the daily gifts of good food and good friends, but always enjoy them with thanksgiving.Thank You, too, for the comfort of our homes and for the blessings of our family life. And though we sometimes feel the heavy weight of our burdens and cares, thank You for the grace to see them through. When we come to the end of this day, and every day thereafter, may our hearts still be grateful and our prayer full of thanksgiving. Amen
