Father Lance Oser

Associate Pastor

Hello! I’m Father Lance Oser, the new associate pastor just ordained on Friday, June 22, Solemnity of the Sacred Heart. By way of introduction let me tell you alittle about myself. I was raised in a family of eight (I’m the seventh).

My mother celebrated her 80th birthday on June 18, and my father, who was a retired Lt. Col. in the Air Force, passed away in ’97. My home is Atwater, California, about 1 hr. north of Fresno. Having graduated from San Diego State Univ. with a BA in European Studies, I received a second BA in Education from Cal State Los Angeles. Teaching was my profession for 8yrs in public elementary (LA, CA), Catholic Jr. High (St. Agnes in St. Paul, Mn), and Catholic Sr. High (St.Bernard’s, LA, CA).

After studying for the Archdiocese of St. Paul, Mn. for 3yrs., Bishop Carlson invited me to study for Sioux Falls at Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell, CT. With my studies complete, I will receive a Masters in Theology after passing the comprehensive exams this November. My Masters Thesis was on "A Re-examination of the Spanish Inquisition under Three Aspects." (There is much misinformation about the Inquisition!)

Obviously I enjoy reading, but I am also an avid skier (a sister lives in Denver) and I was a competitive swimmer for eight years into my first year of college, including two years of water polo in highschool. Travel is also part of my education: Europe, Mexico, Israel, the Carribean, Hawaii & Tahiti. And since my parents are from New Orleans, LA., I enjoy Creole cooking.

I am delighted to be here to serve God and you, His People, at Sacred Heart!

May God bless you!

Fr. Lance Oser
