I was born on November 21, 1955 in Redfield, SD, the son of Carl and Patricia (Dvorak) Anderson. I grew up on a farm owned and operated by my parents ten miles Southeast of Redfield. I am the third of seven children: Edwin, Sr. Jacinta (Marcia), Terence, Janice, Bryon, Darrel and Trixie.
I attended grade school and high school in the Redfield public school system, graduating in 1974. My family were members of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Redfield, SD where I made my First Holy Communion in 1963 and received the Sacrament of Confirmation on May 18, 1967 (Bishop Lambert Hoch administering this Sacrament).
I attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD, graduating with a BS degree in Agricultural Education in May of 1978. The following school year, I taught Vocational Agriculture to high school students in Viborg, SD.
In August of 1979, I entered Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary and attended St. Mary's College in Winona, Minnesota. This was to fulfill "pre-theology" requirements before major theology. In August of 1980, I entered Mount Saint Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Here, in May of 1983 I obtained a Masters of Divinity degree. And, on May 22nd, 1983, I was ordained a Deacon in my home parish at Redfield.
That Summer of 1983 I was assigned by Bishop Paul Dudley to Sacred Heart Church in Yankton, SD, serving under Fr. Thomas Ryan. Then, after spending the Fall completing my Seminary requirements at Mount Saint Mary's Seminary, I was assigned to Christ the King Church in Sioux Falls serving under Monsignor John McEneaney.
I was ordained a Priest on May 26, 1984 at St. Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls, SD by Bishop Paul V. Dudley. Fr. David Roehrich, a native son of Aberdeen, was also ordained at this ceremony. My first Mass of Thanksgiving was at my home parish, St. Bernard's in Redfield on May 27, 1984.
Both Fr. David and I were assigned by Bishop Dudley as associate Priests at St. Joseph Cathedral serving under the Pastor, Fr. Al Krzyzopolski. I remained at St. Joseph Cathedral for four years, until the Summer of 1988. (The final year, Fr. Don Kettler was the Pastor of St. Joseph Cathedral.)
In 1988, Bishop Dudley sent me to St. Ann Church in Humboldt, SD and St. Patrick Church in Montrose, SD, where I worked with Sr. Mildred Nikolas for three years.
In 1991, Bishop Dudley assigned Fr. Richard Fox and myself to work in "team ministry" and to take care of five parishes in the Northwest part of the diocese: St. Augustine in Bowdle, SD; St. John, in Onaka, SD; St. Joseph, in Eureka, SD, St. Thomas in Roscoe, SD; and Holy Trinity in Hosmer, SD.
In 1993, I was assigned by Bishop Dudley to be Pastor to St. Thomas Church in Faulkton, SD and St. Boniface Church in Seneca, SD; and assigned to be Sacramental Minister to St. Liborius Church in Polo, SD and St. Joseph Church in Orient, SD, working with Sr. Mary Myles Schwahn, administrator of these two parishes.
On July 2, 1998, I was assigned by Bishop Robert Carlson to be Pastor at St. Anthony Parish in Hoven with a mission at St. John the Baptist Church in Onaka.
And on July 1, 2000, Bishop Carlson assigned me to be Pastor here at Sacred Heart Parish.
